The mobile application estimates the fuel consumption of your vehicle. This estimate is based on a physical approach.
The mechanical traction power is estimated from the speed of travel and the mass of the vehicle using an inverse approach. A power transfer is performed between each powertrain component to calculate the engine torque.
Finally, engine torque and speed are used to calculate fuel mass from an engine consumption map.
This calculation takes into account the important characteristics of the vehicle:
- The type of engine (diesel or gas);
- The mass;
- The power;
- The consumption declared by the manufacturer;
- The number of gearbox ratios.
This algorithm also takes into account these variables:
- The speed of your vehicle during the trip;
- The slope of the road.
The advantage of this method is that it takes into account the driver's behaviour via speed measurement.
This estimation is displayed on several screens of the mobile application:
- In the trip detail;
- In the weekly report;
- In the monitoring of business expenses;
- In the monitoring of personal expenses.
N.B. Estimating consumption from a smartphone's sensors cannot take into account all the factors that influence the vehicle's consumption. Indeed, the smartphone does not measure factors that could affect fuel consumption such as wind, variation in vehicle weight or vehicle condition and wear.
